The Graco Metrolite Travel System

There are about 6 types of strollers so picking one that is right for you may be overwhelming. It was for my husband and I, especially since this was our first baby. At first, we opted for the travel system. But with the suggestion of our coworker, we changed our mind to a lightweight convenience stroller and purchase the car seat as a separate item. Then, after looking at more strollers, and doing some more thinking, we opted back to the travel system. Here’s why.
My coworker suggested us spending more money on a good stroller and car seat. She purchased a travel system initially, but ended up buying a new set because the travel systems did not work too well. She recommended the Aria Ultra Lightweight Stroller by Peg Perego. I went to Babies R Us to check it out. Very lightweight indeed. It costs $200. I liked it. Since it was just the stroller, we also had to buy a convertible car seat. So I looked at the Graco ComfortSport Convertible in Tan Check. It’s $100 at Babies R Us. So we would have spent a total of $300. Not too bad.
After some thought, we decided to stick to the travel system. It’s not that it’s cheaper. It actually comes out to be the same price. We figured that if we needed to take the baby with us on any trips, we didn’t have to unbuckle the baby from the car seat, take the baby out, and re-buckle him onto a stroller. Rather, we thought it would be most convenient for us to just snap the car seat out of the base and snap it to the stroller, without having to redo the straps or wake him up every time. To us, it made more sense.
So I did some research on travel systems. And it seems as if the Graco Metrolite Travel System is best. Most travel systems are heavy, but the Graco Metrolite is pretty lightweight. The stroller is made of aluminum and is only approximately 17 pounds. Other travel system strollers are 20 pounds or more. It may not seem like a big difference, but if you add a 20 pound baby in there, it could make a difference! Furthermore, it’s only $200. If we get the Graco ComfortSport convertible car seat (for later when the baby is heavier than 20 pounders and older than 1 year) for $100, then it’s the same price as getting the Peg Perego Aria and Graco ComfortSport.
My husband and I just assembled the Graco Travel System stroller today. I like how easy the installation is. Everything is pretty much a snap on. And the fabric on the stroller and car seat are soft. So far, we like it.
